Phase-specific care

Atopic Dermatitis has two phases: the acute, flare-up phase and the calmer periods between. Choose skincare products specially formulated to give phase-specific care.

Gentle cleansing

Choose cleansers that support rather than strip skin of its natural lipids. Use warm rather than hot water, don’t spend too long in the bath or shower and gently pat atopic skin dry.

Regular moisturization

Give atopic skin the daily care it needs with products proven to strengthen skin’s barrier and care for skin. Look out for ingredients such as Licochalcone A and Ceramides.

Fast-acting relief

Get to grips with itchy skin fast as scratching only makes things worse. Eucerin AtopiControl Acute Care Cream contains a unique and active ingredient complex that quickly calms and soothes skin during flare-ups. And it’s suitable for babies from three months.

Medication

Your doctor will advise on the best medication for your child. Oral and topical corticosteroids such as 1% hydrocortisone cream can help with the symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis.

Spot potential triggers

Allergens (such as pollen and pet hair) can trigger a reaction. The role food allergies play is less certain, but some parents link their child’s flare-ups to certain foods. Try keeping a record of anything that might make your child’s symptoms worse. Discuss any patterns with their doctor.

Don’t smoke

You know it’s not good for you, but did you know that passive smoking may exacerbate your child’s atopic skin?

Gently does it

Wrap your child’s skin in gentle, natural fabrics such as cotton and linen and avoid scratchy materials like wool. Use a gentle detergent and wash all new clothes to remove any chemicals that may have been used in the manufacturing process.

Scratch mitts

Use scratch mitts to protect your child’s delicate skin from constant itching. Some parents and carers also find that a scratch doll (a toy a child can scratch instead of themselves) helps.

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleanse with Eucerin UltraSENSITIVE Cleansing Lotion (for your face) and Eucerin AtopiControl Bath and Shower Oil (for your body). These products can be used during flare-ups and the periods between.

Step 2: Care (basic)

Daily care for the periods between flare-ups
Apply the appropriate daily care product. Choose from AtopiControl Balm (a light body balm), AtopiControl Lotion (a rich body lotion), AtopiControl Cream (a thick cream for specific areas of your body), AtopiControl Hand Cream, AtopiControl Face Cream.

Step 2: Care (acute)

Additional care for during a flare-up
Apply AtopiControl Acute Care Cream to the relevant affected areas to relieve itching and improve skin condition. It is an ideal adjunct to medical treatment. If you are using a topical medical product apply that before the Acute Care Cream. All our daily care products can also be used during a flare-up and should be applied after your medication and/or AtopiControl Acute Care Cream.
